Short answer
A color consultation in Atlanta helps you choose paint by testing it where it will live: large samples on your walls, seen at different times of day, next to your floors, counters and trim. We narrow the choices, check how colors flow room to room and write down every color and sheen for the painting scope. Call to set one up.
Why paint chips mislead and large samples do not
A chip under store lighting says little about a whole wall in your house. North-facing rooms pull colors cooler, west-facing rooms warm them in late afternoon, and nearby trees throw a green cast. Large areas also read darker and more saturated than the chip.
So the testing comes first. We look at what you are keeping, like flooring, counters, brick and tile, bring a short list that works with it, and put samples up large in more than one spot.

What drives the price
What affects the cost of color help
A consultation is priced by how much ground it covers:
Number of spaces
One room takes far less time than a whole-house palette.
Interior, exterior or both
Exterior schemes add samples on several sides and curb checks.
Sample count
More boards and patches mean more paint and more time.
Fixed finishes
Working around brick, stone, tile or wood floors can take extra rounds.
Tied to a paint job
When it leads into our painting scope, the color list carries straight over.
Whole-house palettes
Choosing colors one room at a time is how houses end up looking choppy. A whole-house palette starts with one or two main wall colors for shared spaces, one trim white and a ceiling color, then adds stronger colors for bedrooms, offices or an accent wall where they will not clash with what you see through a doorway. We walk the sightlines from the front door, the kitchen and the stairs, since those decide which rooms must relate. You get a written list by room: color name, brand and sheen for walls, trim and ceilings.
Exterior color schemes

Exterior colors are harder to judge because sunlight washes them out and the house is mostly seen from the street. A scheme usually has three parts: body, trim, and an accent for the front door and shutters. It also has to work with what you are not painting, like the roof, brick or stone, and the gutters. We put samples on more than one side of the house and look from the curb in morning and afternoon light. If an HOA keeps an approved color list, we start from it so the submission does not need rework.
Sample boards and test patches
Samples work best large. We paint poster-size boards, or patches directly on the wall, in two coats so the color reads true. Boards can travel: next to the trim, beside the kitchen cabinets, into the darkest corner. Wall patches show texture and sheen more honestly. Each one is labeled and placed in a few spots per room, and you look at them morning, evening and under your own lamps. Once you decide, the patches you passed on get painted over as part of the job.

Around Atlanta
Tree shade and color choices around Atlanta
A Georgia Tech assessment found 45.7% of Atlanta's land under tree canopy in 2023, and 72% of the city's remaining trees stand on land zoned for single-family homes. Many houses therefore sit in filtered, green-tinted light for much of the year. Rooms under heavy canopy read cooler and darker than the same color in an open lot, and exteriors change once the leaves drop. We test samples on shaded and sunny sides, and in winter we allow for how the light will shift when the leaves return.

Questions
Color Consultation questions we hear in Atlanta
No. You keep the color list either way, and it works for any painter or a project you do yourself.
Many do well with two or three main wall colors, one trim white and one ceiling color, plus a few accents.
Yes. We sample from the approved list so you can choose before you submit.
Warm bulbs push colors toward yellow, cool LEDs toward blue. We check samples under your own bulbs.
Usually. One trim white keeps transitions clean, though a softer white can suit a single room.
Two or three days at least, so you see them on a sunny day, a cloudy day and at night.
