Stonecrest, DeKalb County
Stonecrest repaints for homes built from the 1980s to the 2000s
Stonecrest became a city in 2017, but its subdivisions are older than its charter. Many of the houses near the mall went up in the 1990s and 2000s and are ready for fresh paint inside and out.

Short answer
Stonecrest became a city after a November 2016 vote, and its housing is mostly late 20th and early 21st century: within 5 miles of the Mall at Stonecrest, 23.4% of homes were built in the 2000s and 17.6% in the 1990s. Repaints here center on siding and trim outside and builder-grade walls inside.
Homes in Stonecrest
Subdivisions near the mall and the Arabia Mountain preserve
Residents voted to create Stonecrest in the November 2016 general election, and the first council and mayor were elected in March 2017. The 2020 census counted 59,194 people and 24,452 housing units, and the Census Bureau estimated 61,337 residents by July 2025.
The neighborhoods came before the city. Within 5 miles of the Mall at Stonecrest, which opened in 2001, 18.5% of homes date from the 1980s, 17.6% from the 1990s, 23.4% from the 2000s and 9.7% from 2010 or later, and 58.8% are owner-occupied. Subdivision houses from those years often have hardboard, fiber cement or vinyl siding, builder-grade interior paint and two-story family rooms.
Arabia Mountain is part of the picture too. A trail runs from downtown Lithonia to Stonecrest Mall and on through the 2,550-acre Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve, which became part of the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area in 2006. Wherever a house backs onto woods, mildew and pollen build up on the shaded walls, so soft washing comes before any paint.

Questions
Painting questions from Stonecrest
Yes, with paint made for vinyl in a vinyl-safe color, usually no darker than the original, so the panels do not warp in the sun.
Yes. Cracks and pits are repaired, the concrete is ground or etched, and a solid or flake epoxy system goes down in coats.
Usually. Builder flat paint marks easily and does not wash well, while a good eggshell or satin holds up much better in halls, kitchens and kids' rooms.
