Painting and staining homes in Rockdale County
In Rockdale, stain matters as much as paint. Decks and wood fences behind detached houses wear faster than siding, so it makes sense to plan both in one visit.

Short answer
Rockdale County covers 128 square miles, the second smallest of Georgia's 159 counties, and in its school district area 78.3% of housing is houses. Most were built between 1970 and 1999, which is why exterior jobs here often pair deck and fence staining with siding and trim paint.
Homes in Rockdale County
Conyers and the county that grew around it
Rockdale was formed from Newton and Henry counties by a bill approved on Oct. 18, 1870, which made it Georgia's 133rd county. Conyers is older than the county: it became a town on Feb. 16, 1854, named for Dr. W.D. Conyers, who helped secure the land for the railroad.
Most of the houses came much later. In the Rockdale County School District area, 55.7% of homes were built between 1970 and 1999, 29.9% in 2000 or later and 14.3% before 1970. The county counted 93,570 residents in the 2020 Census, and 69.6% of its housing units are owner-occupied.
For painting, that adds up to detached houses with wood trim, lap or vinyl siding, and wood decks and fences out in full sun. Stain on a deck or fence breaks down faster than paint on a wall, so we clean and dry the wood, replace split boards and pickets, and restain before the gray sets in. Inside, older rooms often carry textured ceilings and dark trim that owners want gone at the same time.

It depends on sun, shade and the stain. When water stops beading on the wood and the color looks washed out, it is time. Waiting until the wood grays means more cleaning before new stain will soak in.
Yes, with a paint made for vinyl and a color not much darker than the original, since dark colors can make vinyl panels warp in the sun.
Yes. We paint the house first, so any drips land on deck boards that are about to be cleaned, then wash, dry and stain the deck last.
