Short answer
DeKalb County was created in 1822, yet its farmland disappeared only in the 1960s, as it became an urban county. Painting here usually means wood trim, fascia and siding on brick or frame houses built since then, plus interiors in townhomes and newer infill.
Homes in DeKalb County
From 1960s subdivisions to apartment-era infill
DeKalb was carved from parts of Henry, Gwinnett and Fayette counties in 1822, and the legislature picked the land lot for Decatur, its seat, the following year. Much of it kept its farmland until the 1960s, when DeKalb became an urban county. In Chamblee, Sexton Woods grew up with 1950s ranches and Huntley Hills was established in the early 1960s, while the village of Stone Mountain, reached by the railroad by 1845, keeps houses from the 1880s onward.
Single-unit homes still make up most of the stock. A housing presentation posted by the City of Decatur counted 202,048 single-unit homes in the county in 2020, up from 165,396 in 2000, while units in buildings of 10 or more climbed from 45,351 to 70,444. For a painter, that splits the work in two: detached houses where trim, siding and decks need attention, and townhome or condo buildings where an association sets the colors and the calendar.
On detached houses the failures repeat. Fascia and window trim go first, then siding on whichever side sees the least sun. We wash, scrape, cut out soft wood and prime bare spots before any color goes on. Inside, the older homes carry layers of trim enamel and patched drywall, so interior jobs begin with repairs about as often as with paint.

The wood. Fascia boards under gutters, window sills and the lowest courses of siding hold water longest, so they peel and soften before the brick or upper siding shows wear. We repair those spots before painting.
Yes. Give us the approved color schedule and any rules on work hours, and we paint to it. If the board wants a sample before work starts, we can brush one out for you.
Yes. Interior walls, ceilings, trim, cabinets and drywall repair are all part of the work, and they often fill the wet days when exterior painting has to wait.
