Short answer
Chamblee was incorporated in 1907 and boomed when Camp Gordon brought 40,000 servicemen during World War I. Today only 39.7% of its housing units are owner-occupied, so painting here covers rental turnovers as well as repaints on 1950s ranches in Sexton Woods and early 1960s houses in Huntley Hills.
Homes in Chamblee
Camp Gordon, ranch streets and apartment corridors
Chamblee began as Roswell Junction, a settlement where two rail lines crossed, and was incorporated in 1907. During World War I the U.S. operated Camp Gordon there, home to 40,000 servicemen, and the influx set off a building boom; the camp reopened as a Navy flight training center at the start of World War II.
The ranch streets came later. Sexton Woods has 1950s ranch style homes with newer craftsman-style infill between them, Huntley Hills was established in the early 1960s and joined the city through annexation in 2010, and the Beverly Hills and Beverly Woods area is mostly mid-century ranch and split-level houses.
Along Buford Highway the picture changes to large apartment complexes, and citywide only 39.7% of housing units are owner-occupied; the 2020 Census counted 13,198 units in all. That mix shapes the work: ranches need fascia, trim and brick or siding repainted, infill houses need interiors and fiber cement kept up, and rental units need patching and paint between tenants.
