Homes in Ansley Park

Short answer

Ansley Park was developed by Edwin P. Ansley from 1905 to 1908 on a 1904 plan by Solon Z. Ruff, and its houses span Craftsman, Tudor, Queen Anne, Italianate and Prairie School styles. Painting here covers wood porches and siding, older interiors, and the garage apartments, condos and townhouses set among the larger houses.

Fourteen parks, 275 acres and a long list of house styles

Edwin P. Ansley built the neighborhood from 1905 to 1908, and it is recorded as the first Atlanta suburban neighborhood designed for automobiles. Landscape designer Solon Z. Ruff drew the plan, and its 14-park linear greenway takes up 30 percent of the footprint.

The American Planning Association lists Baroque, Craftsman, Tudor, Queen Anne, Italianate, Prairie School and Modern houses here, alongside garage apartments, apartment and condo buildings and townhouses. Each asks for something different. A Queen Anne porch with turned posts and spindles is slow, hand-brushed work. A Prairie School house with wide eaves puts the attention on soffits and fascia. A condo building needs work planned around the people living in it.

Old-growth trees shade many of these lots. Shade keeps paint cooler in summer, but it also keeps wood damp after rain and lets mildew settle in, so a wash and a dry-out day come before scraping on almost every exterior here.
