Drywall Repair & Patching on an Atlanta-area home

Short answer

Drywall repair in Atlanta starts with a call at any hour; our phones are answered 24/7, and we book a visit while you are on the line. Small holes and nail pops are patched, textured and painted. Board soaked by a leak is cut out and replaced once the leak is fixed and the framing has dried.

What happens after you call about damaged drywall

Call the moment a ceiling starts to sag or the morning after the movers leave. We ask what happened, whether the leak has been stopped and roughly how large the damage is, then book a visit. Nothing gets patched over wet board, because compound traps the moisture and the stain comes back.

On site, we probe and meter the board, cut damage back to sound drywall and solid framing, and patch or replace from there. Repairs are taped, coated thin, sanded, textured to blend, primed and painted, out to a corner when a spot touch-up would show.

What you will notice

Signs the damage goes past a quick spackle

A brown ring on the ceiling

Water has reached the board, which may still be soft.

A sag between joists

Wet board is losing strength and should come out.

Cracks from door and window corners

Framing moved; filler alone will reopen.

Nail pops in a straight row

Fasteners are backing out along a stud.

Tape lifting at a seam

The joint was poorly bedded and needs new tape.

How the job runs

How a drywall repair runs, from call to paint

  1. Call any hour

We answer 24/7, ask what happened and set a time to see it.

  2. Find the edges

We probe and meter the board and cut back to dry, solid drywall.

  3. Patch or replace

Small holes get patches; larger areas get new board on framing or backing.

  4. Tape, coat and texture

Thin coats with drying time between, sanded and textured to blend.

  5. Prime, then paint to a corner

Patches are primed, then painted out to a clean break.

Holes and dents

Doorknobs, TV mounts and anchors pulled on move-out day leave holes from pinpoint to fist size. Small ones are filled and feathered wide. Anything larger than a patch can bridge is cut square, backed with a wood strip or clips and filled with a new piece of drywall screwed in place. A dent on an outside corner usually means the metal corner bead is bent, and that bead is replaced rather than buried in compound. On move-outs we walk each room and list every hole before paint.

Nail pops and tape seams

Patches are feathered wide so they vanish under paint.

Nail pops show as round bumps or cracked circles lined up along a stud. We drive a drywall screw beside the old nail to pull the board tight, set the nail below the surface and fill both. Seams that bubble, crack or peel were usually bedded with too little compound, so the loose tape is cut out, new tape is bedded and the joint is finished flat. Diagonal cracks above doors and windows come from framing movement; they get reinforced with tape, since a crack that is only filled opens again next season.

Water-damaged drywall

A roof leak, a burst supply line or an overflowing AC drain pan in the attic can soak ceiling drywall until it sags or crumbles. Once the leak is repaired and the area has dried, we cut out every section that stayed soft, check the insulation above and hang new board. Wet framing has to dry before it is closed up, so we meter it and tell you how long to wait. Stained board that stays firm can remain under a stain-blocking primer. Mold on the back of the board or framing stops the job until it is cleaned up.

Around Atlanta

Rain in every season, and repairs booked from Tucker

Atlanta averages about 49.7 inches of rain a year, spread through every season, with October usually the driest month. So a cracked flashing boot or an overflowing gutter can put water on drywall in any month. Repairs are booked from our office in Tucker, a city since 2016 that sits about 15 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, and we set the visit while you are still on the phone.

What drives the price

What moves the price of a drywall repair

Most drywall repair is priced by the job, and these five details change it the most.

Published range: $296 to $930 for most repairs, and $600 to $1,550 for water-damaged drywall. Source: HomeAdvisor, national figures, June 2026. A planning figure, not our quote.

Size and count

One doorknob hole and a move-out list are different jobs.

Wall or ceiling

Overhead work is slower, and sagging board has to come down.

Texture

Orange peel and knockdown are recreated so the patch blends.

Water damage

Cut-outs, new board and drying time add the most.

Paint after

Painting the full wall hides the patch but adds labor.

Do it yourself or hire it out

Drywall fixes you can handle, and the ones to hand off

Small holes are a fair do-it-yourself job; bigger damage is not.

TaskDoing it yourselfWhen to call a painter
Nail holes and small dentsSpackle, a putty knife and a dab of paint handle these. When there are dozens across a house.
Doorknob-size holesA mesh patch works if you feather the compound wide. When the edges are torn or crumbling.
Water-stained ceilingsWait until the leak is fixed and the board is checked.Any sag, softness or stain larger than a dinner plate.
