Short answer
Garage floor epoxy in Atlanta is a coating that grips a ground and repaired concrete slab, finished in full flake or a solid color. Prep decides whether it lasts: grinding, crack repair and a moisture check come before the first coat. Atlanta cost guides list about $5 to $8 per square foot. Call us to look at your slab.
A garage floor coating is only as good as the concrete under it
Epoxy that peels in hot-tire patches or lifts at the edges almost always failed because of the slab, not the coating. Bare concrete is dusty, often sealed or stained with oil, and sometimes damp from below. A coating rolled over that has nothing to hold onto.
So most of the job is prep. We grind the surface to open the pores, clean out oil, repair cracks and pits, and check the slab for moisture. Then the base coat, flakes or color coat and a clear topcoat go on in order.

Choosing between options
Full-flake or solid color: how they compare
Most homeowners choose between these two finishes. Here is how they differ.
| Compare | Full-flake epoxy | Solid color coat |
|---|---|---|
| Look | Speckled, textured | Smooth, single color |
| Hides dust and tire marks | Very well | Shows more |
| Hides old repairs | Very well | Repairs can show through |
| Traction when wet | Texture helps | Needs anti-slip grit |
| Material and steps | More | Fewer |
What drives the price
What moves the price of a garage floor coating
Square footage sets the baseline. These five things move the price most.
Published range: $5 to $8 per square foot; $2,400 to $3,900 for a 2-car garage (500 sq ft). Source: HomeBlue, Atlanta, 2025. A planning figure, not our quote.
Garage size
More floor means more grinding, material and coats.
Slab condition
Cracks, pits and oil stains add repair time.
Moisture in the concrete
A damp slab may need extra steps before coating.
Flake or solid color
Full-flake floors use more material and steps than a solid coat.
Clearing the garage
Full garages take longer to clear.
Full-flake epoxy floors
A full-flake floor has a colored base coat broadcast to refusal with vinyl flakes, then scraped and sealed with a clear topcoat. The flakes give texture underfoot, which helps on a damp floor, and the mixed colors hide dust, tire marks and small stains far better than a single color. Because the flakes cover the base coat completely, the floor looks even on a slab that was patched or blotchy before the job. Blends run from gray and tan to darker mixes.
Solid color coats

A solid color coat is a pigmented epoxy without flakes, often in light gray or tan, with or without a clear topcoat. It uses less material than a full-flake floor and brightens a dark garage. The tradeoff is that it shows dust, tire marks and repairs underneath more readily, and it can be slick when wet unless a fine anti-slip grit goes into the topcoat. It suits workshops and storage garages where you want a plain, bright floor that is easy to sweep.
Concrete repair before coating
Cracks, pitted spots and spalled edges near the garage door need repair before coating, or they show through and keep spreading. We grind the floor, cut out and fill cracks with a repair compound, patch pits and level low spots. Oil stains are degreased so the coating can grip. We also check for moisture coming up through the slab, one of the main reasons coatings lift, and tell you before coating if it is a problem so you can decide how to handle it.

Around Atlanta
Why we check Atlanta slabs for moisture first
Slab building dominates this part of the country. In 2024, 85.7% of new single-family homes started in the South Atlantic states, Georgia among them, went on slab foundations, against 73% nationally, according to an NAHB analysis of Census data. A slab garage floor sits on the ground, and water wicking up from below is a common reason coatings lift, so we test the slab before we coat.
How the job runs
How a garage floor is coated, step by step
Look at the slab
We check cracks, stains and moisture and agree on a finish.
Grind and clean
The surface is ground to open the pores and vacuumed clean.
Repair cracks and pits
Cracks and pits are filled and ground flush.
Base coat and flakes or color
The base goes down, then flakes or a color coat.
Topcoat and cure
A clear topcoat seals it, then the floor cures.
Do it yourself or hire it out
Kit epoxy versus a professional coating
Store-bought epoxy kits are a common weekend project, and this is where they fall short.
| Task | Doing it yourself | When to call a painter |
|---|---|---|
| Surface prep | Kits rely on acid etching, which often leaves the slab too smooth. | Grinding opens the concrete pores. |
| Crack repair | Small cracks get filled with caulk that shows through. | Cracks are cut out, filled and ground flush. |
| Moisture check | Usually skipped. | We test the slab first. |
| Coating thickness | Kits are thin and wear through in tire paths. | Base and topcoat build a thicker film. |
| Hot-tire marks | Thin coats can lift where hot tires park. | A ground slab and topcoat resist it. |
Questions
Garage Floor Epoxy questions we hear in Atlanta
It depends on the prep, the slab and how the garage is used. Grinding, crack repair and a moisture check make the coating hold.
Full flake hides repaired cracks well. A solid color can show them, so cracks are repaired and ground flush first.
Full flake has texture. A solid coat can be slick when wet without anti-slip grit.
We test moisture first and tell you before coating if the slab is damp.
Foot traffic comes back well before cars. We give you the cure times for the products on your floor, and the garage has to stay empty until then.
Yes, if the slab is sound and dry enough, checked the same way.
