From McDaniel to a Gwinnett suburb
The area was called McDaniel until the Seaboard Air Line Railway founded the town in 1890 and renamed it for Lilburn Trigg Myers, the railroad's general superintendent. Lilburn was incorporated on July 27, 1910.
The modern city is much bigger. Lilburn counted 14,502 residents in the 2020 Census, up 25.1% from 2010, and 4,841 housing units, of which 3.7% were vacant. The Census Bureau estimated 16,369 residents by July 2025, with 61.4% of housing units owner-occupied. Across Gwinnett as a whole, 57.3% of homes in the county school district area were built between 1970 and 1999.
